Lamole in Chianti

The hilltop hamlet of Lamole in Chianti in central Tuscany

The hamlet of Lamole, famous for its Chianti Classico wines, is situated high up in the Chianti hills near Greve in Chianti and Panzano in Chianti. Lamole is a popular vacation location on account of its fabulous views and its temperate summer weather. The one and only restaurant in Lamole, Ristoro di Lamole, is a bit pricey but has a good reputation for tasty and original food. There is a grocery store in Lamole and the nearest Coop supermarket is in Greve.

Note that there is an excellent, economical and innovative restaurant on a side road soon after the turnoff to Lamole from the main road (via Chiantigiana). This is Ristorante Dondoli.

The Church of Santa Maria at Casole on the road to Lamole in Chianti.

The road leading from the Via Chiantigiana to Lamole alone justifies a visit to the village. On the lower slopes you pass Villa Vignamaggio, a beautiful Renaissance villa, and the road crosses a mediaeval road that runs through the woods from Lamole and the Castello di Lamole down into the valley of the Greve stream, and as far as Panzano. The higher parts of the road pass the hamlet of Castellinuzza and so on through avenues of cypress trees and then stretches where the road overlooks precipitous drops, including one right next to the village of Casole.

A good range of holiday villas, farm houses and apartments is available in the area around Lamole. Our recommended vacation accommodations are described briefly below.
