The village of Tavarnelle in Val di Pesa and its surroundings in Tuscany, Italy

Tavarnelle is mostly modern architecturally but is the location of the Church of Santa Lucia al Borghetto, the most interesting architectural sight within Tavarnelle itself, being a rare example of Tuscan Gothic architecture.

In the environs of Tavarnelle, the highly attractive Romanesque parish church of San Pietro in Bossolo contains interesting works of art and the Museo di Arte Sacra has been set up in the former priests’ house.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria del Carmine at Morrocco  also exhibits some aspects of the gothic style typical of smaller buildings. This church is one of the most picturesque in the area and worth a visit if you’re passing by.

The Pieve di San Donato in Poggio is another fine church in the vicinity of Tavarnelle, dating from before 989, and also worth a visit.

The large and picturesque Vallombrosan monastery of Badia di Passignano is within easy reach of Tavarnelle.
