Radda in Chianti, along with Gaiole and Castellina, was one of the three founding towns of the Chianti league and is to this day located on a ridge between the Val d’Arbia and the Val di Pesa, within the Chianti Classico wine zone, surrounded on all sides by cypress forests and vineyards. Radda is of mediaeval origin and considerable parts of the old town walls remain.

Radda in Chianti has a 15 C town hall, the Palazzo del Podestà, with an interesting facade, and a number of other features worth a look, including the Church of San Nicolò, the nearby Franciscan Convent of Santa Maria in Prato, which houses a polyptich by Neri di Bicci (1474), and the mediaeval Pieve of Santa Maria Novella. Radda serves as a grocery shopping centre for the wineries and agriturismi in the Chianti hills around about. It also has several restaurants, making it a good place to stop for lunch when touring the Chianti castles.
